Is Facebook Playing Cat and Mouse With YOU?

Have you got a great Facebook fan page? Have you spent countless hours building your fan page by providing really good content? Maybe you are in the process of building a fan page and are frustrated that it seems to be going nowhere. You are not alone, this scenario is happening to page administrator’s right across Facebook.

Before Facebook went public in 2012 it was the place to be. It was user friendly, good for business and a great way to get brand recognition. It was a cheap way to sell products, provide services and interact with your customers in real time. Sadly this is no longer the case. Facebook must now keep its stockholders happy if it wants to survive. It’s the reason they have been pushing paid ads so heavily.

What does Facebook promise you when you advertise with them? Increased Likes, Reach and customer engagement are just a few of the perks. What do Facebook users think about their new strategy? They are fed up with the constant changes and being spammed by content they don’t want to see.

The company Eat24 is just one example of how fed up people are becoming with Facebook. On April 1, 2014, Eat24 quit Facebook over the changes to Facebook’s Newsfeed algorithm.  They sent a letter to Facebook and were basically told to get used to it, that’s how things were going to be from now on.

So what can you do about it? Message the fans on your page and tell them what is going on. Ask them to go to your page and right click on the “Like” button until a drop down box appears, then select “Get Notifications”. This will make sure that your posts appear in their Newsfeed. You can also encourage your fans to follow you on other social media platforms like Google+, Twitter, your blog and Pinterest.

The other alternative is to hire a social media manager and get them to take care of all these headaches for you. It’s a lot of work running a business, let alone trying to keep up with all the changes that occur in Social Media on a regular basis. To find out more please follow the link below:

The coming months will be very interesting for businesses trying to maintain their status on social media platforms like Facebook. Businesses who don’t have a dedicated social media manager may find themselves further behind the eight ball than they were before. What do you think? Will marketing via social media get harder for the average person or will it balance itself out? Please let me know your thoughts by leaving your comments below.
